Why Your Google Business Profile Isn’t Showing Up

Why Your Google Business Profile Isn't Showing Up — GhostSite guide

You created a Google Business Profile, but when you search for your business it doesn’t appear — or it shows for your exact name but never for the services you offer. There’s a short list of usual causes.

Is it verified?

This is the most common reason. An unverified profile typically won’t appear in local results at all. Open your profile dashboard and look for a “Verify now” prompt — if it’s there, you never finished verification. Complete it (postcard, phone, or video), and the profile usually starts showing within days.

Is it suspended?

Google suspends profiles that break its rules — keyword-stuffed names, a fake or virtual address, a service-area business listing a street address it shouldn’t, or sudden large edits. A suspended profile vanishes from search. If you suspect this, check your dashboard for a suspension notice and follow Google’s reinstatement process.

Are you searching from the right place?

Local results depend heavily on where the searcher is. If you search from home, miles from your business, you may not see yourself even though nearby customers do. Don’t judge visibility from your own searches alone — distance changes what each person sees.

Is the profile too new or too thin?

A brand-new profile takes a little time to settle into results. A sparse one — no photos, no description, no reviews, wrong or missing category — gives Google little reason to show it. Complete every field and add your primary category specifically.

Does your business information conflict across the web?

If your name, address, or phone number differs between your profile, your website, and old directory listings, Google may not trust the profile enough to rank it. Make all of them identical.

Is it showing for your name but not your services?

If you appear when someone types your exact business name but never for “[service] near me”, the profile exists but isn’t competing on relevance. That’s usually down to category choice, thin information, and few reviews — not a technical fault. Fix the category, complete the profile, and build reviews.

What to do next

Work through it in order: verified → not suspended → complete → consistent → reviewed. Most “not showing” cases are solved at the verification or completeness step.
